The Italian Air Force was the first in the world to use a plane in a battle, and was the first to throw a bomb in a field of battle (a bomb of 2 kg in weight), in contravention of the Geneva Convention of 1864.
It was thanks to the lovers of the flight that in 1909 he was invited to Italy Wilbur Wright, who made the demonstrations with his first airplane in the world, near Rome, from where the first club Italian Air Force was able to build the first Italian aircraft.
The first pilot's license was issued in September 1909 to Lieutenant Mario Calderara.

• The last Italian hero

The same Calderara, along with Lt. Umberto Savoia, signed in February 1910, the first contract with the Wright brothers for the licensed production in Italy, 5 aircraft that used the patents held by the same Wright.

The first operational use of air forces came with the Libyan campaign of 1911-1912, through the use of 4 balloons, blimps 2 and 28 aircraft
Thanks to the first world war Italy built the first military aircraft (modern for that time).

L'aeronautica italiana fu la prima nel mondo ad utilizzare un aereo in una battaglia, e fu la prima a lanciare una bomba in un campo di battaglia ( una bomba di 2 kg di peso), contravvenendo alla convenzione di Ginevra del 1864.
Fu grazie a degli amanti del volo che nel 1909 fu invitato in Italia Wilbur Wright, il quale fece delle dimostrazioni con il suo primo aereo del mondo, vicino Roma; da qui il primo club italiano di aeronautica riuscì a costruire il primo aereo italiano.
Il primo brevetto di pilota venne rilasciato nel settembre 1909 al tenente di vascello Mario Calderara.
Lo stesso Calderara, insieme al Ten. Umberto Savoia, firmò nel febbraio 1910 il primo contratto con i fratelli Wright per la produzione su licenza, in Italia, di 5 aeromobili che utilizzavano i brevetti detenuti dagli stessi Wright.
Il primo utilizzo operativo delle forze aeree avvenne con la campagna di Libia del 1911-1912, attraverso l'utilizzo di 4 aerostati, 2 dirigibili e 28 aerei
Grazie alla 1a guerra mondiale l'Italia costruì il primo aereo militare (moderno per quella epoca).
